Whenever the conversation turns to French wine, it´s easy to find ourselves contemplating where the wine came from. If you look into the name of a wine, such as Burgundy, you’ll find a lot about the area where the wine was gown. We all know Burgundy comes from France, same as Champagne. France has thirteen different wine producing regions with literally thousands of wine producing vineyards, making the possibilities for French wine endless. France is also known for having the ideal locations for growing grapes, including the perfect soil conditions and vineyards that are very close to the water. The French climate and location make it ideal for producing a world class wine. French wine varies from the most common types that you can find virtually everywhere, to the rare variants, which can be very difficult to come across. If you are looking for one of the more rare types of French wine, your best bet would be to use the Internet. You can find hundreds of thousands of different types of wine, including rare French wine. Rare vintage French wine can be extremely hard to find, even sometimes so online. You can always look at wine forums as well, including the many different wine websites. All in all, many people consider French wine to be a cut above the rest. Although other wines may use the same ingredients and methods in production, they don’t taste the same as those made in France. When you taste a wine that has been produced in France - you’ll know it. Even though other wines may be preferred by some, the aroma and taste of French wine liken it to no other. Make a better Home Brew

My Beers and Wines taste so good I’ve become the envy of all my friends

Some time back, due to an economy drive, I decided that drinking in my local bar was just getting too expensive. What with taxi fares there and back, you dare not even think of drinking and driving these days, it was costing a small fortune just for a drink with the lads. So I decided that I would have a go at brewing my own beer at home.

I started off full of enthusiasm, buying enough new equipment to start a small brewery, and really got into it.

I couldn’t wait to pull that first pint!

Well to be honest the first few attempts were not that good. In fact they were really quite bad. But I persevered, and kept trying until things began to improve little by little.

I tried different methods of cleaning and sterilizing all the equipment I used. I discovered using malt extract gave a much nicer taste than using sugar. I just experimented over and over and got better and better each time.

Now I can brew a nice clear smooth tasting beer every time.

When friends come over to my house now they remark at how much nicer my beers taste to the ones we used to drink in our local bar.

My heart fills with pride every time I hear that said, and it’s said to me a lot of times these days.

I discovered on the internet. From then on there was no stopping me.

I even started my own little club to show my friends how they can also make their own beers and it’s grown and grown into quite a following now.

But most of all there is nothing nicer than coming home from work on a summers evening and sitting in the garden with a nice cold home brewed beer. Nicer still knowing I paid a fraction of what a bought beer would cost.

As my beer brewing success grew and grew beyond my wildest dreams I began to get more and more strife from my wife who was more of a wine drinker. For all the years that I had known her she had never been much of a beer drinker but did enjoy a glass of wine or two.

This got me thinking again!

If I can now brew such good beer that I am the envy of my friends, could I get the same results making wine?

There was really only one way to find out! So, once again I threw myself enthusiastically into the learning process.

I went out and bought a demijohn, tubes, an airlock and bottle after bottle in different shapes, size and colours.

A couple of weeks later the first six bottles of white wine were ready for tasting. I poured the first glass for my wife to taste as she had more of a liking for wine.

She sniffed it, sloshed it round in the glass, sniffed it again and then took a tentative sip. I waited anxiously as she swallowed. Screwing up her face she shrieked, urrgh that’s horrible.

I quickly poured myself a glass and took a sip. Actually I didn’t need to sip it, the smell alone told me it was disgusting and the taste just confirmed it.

But what had gone wrong? Why did it taste so awful? I couldn’t stop thinking about it as I poured the remaining five bottles down the sink.

I tried another batch, a red this time. The result was a little better but still not something you would actually want to drink in any quantity. I couldn’t help lying awake in bed going through the process over and over in my head. I just couldn’t see where I was going wrong. After all, I wasn’t someone who had never done this sort of thing before, I was almost a master brewer.

So why wasn’t I able to get the same results?

And then it hit me! My beer brewing had improved vastly only once I had completed the free six day home brew course I came found.

My next course of action was obvious to me. I need to find any free information that would improve my wine making skills. I spent the next week or so pouring over books, magazines and the internet trying to find the information I needed.

Then eventually late one night, just as I was about to give up the whole idea of wine making, I came across a site that had just what I was looking for.

I wasn’t going to let a home made bottle of wine make a fool out of me, I was a brewer of beer with a reputation to keep up.

Well all I can say is the wines got better and better. Reds, whites or Rosés it didn’t matter they all began to come out perfect.

You can often see me at home supping on a pint of home brewed bitter while my wife is sipping a nicely chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a big smile on her face!
